Art Informel / post-war abstraction

A painting that seems to have been built, destroyed and built again.

Layers are scraped back. Shapes disappear beneath other shapes. Ochre, rust, smoke, stone and fragments of green emerge through a heavily worked surface that feels closer to a wall than a canvas.

It belongs to the post-war European language of Art Informel, where the physical act of painting became part of the subject itself. From across the room it suggests a ruined landscape.

Up close it becomes paint, scars and memory.
