Bob Dylan

Design created in 1966
Original CBS insert poster
Artwork by Milton Glaser

A head. A silhouette. A riot of colour.

Milton Glaser reduced one of the most recognisable musicians of the twentieth century to almost nothing and somehow made him even more recognisable.

This image became one of the defining pieces of 1960s graphic design: Dylan’s profile disappearing into black while his hair erupts into psychedelic colour.

Music becoming graphic art.

Graphic art becoming cultural memory.
